Damien trudged up the streets, pulling his black jacket closer to his skin. He wished he was the son of a fire god, or something like that, instead of the Goddess of wisdom, Athena. Wisdom doesn't do any good against the bitter cold.
Damien passed his old apartment, without a second glance. That place held to many bitter memories. He wasn't living in it anymore, anyways. What was it to him? A household with a drunk.
Damien glossed over the fact that his sister had lived there too, until...
Damien ran over the Quest in his mind, focusing only on the Quest. Though he still hurried past the condos, creating a smudge of neon colors at the edge of his vision.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca was running down the street, thankful that there was not so much foot traffic due to the weather. In fact, it was like a ghost town. The only person she could see was a boy who looked about her age. But she didn't care about that now. All she wanted to do was get away from...whatever monster was coming. She was approaching the boy now. She was about to run past him when she stopped. His face...it was...perfect. She was in shock. She slowly turned around, to make sure she wasn't imagining it all. Could any human being ever be so perfect?

Damien heard the snarling before he saw the hideous bull-headed creature, chasing a figure. At quick glance, he could see it was female.
Athena's son kicked into gear, and he swung around, a wide u-turn. He reached into a pocket withen his jacket with lightning speed and whipped out a bronze-colored blade.
Finally, something Athena's son could do.
Damien charged at the creature, noting it was a minotaur. He knew better then to actually charge, and ducked to the side at the last moment, attacking from behind. The minotaur roared, and turned around...
...right to the female.
Damien ducked, and rolled over, landing in front of the creature. "Τα βάζω με κάποιον δικό σου μέγεθος." [Mess with someone your own size] He muttered angrily in Greek, thrusting downwards with his blade. A sudden thought struck him. The female!
He twisted around, while taking the blade out of the minotaurs foot.
"It's just a bull, escaped from the zoo! No need to worry!" Then he saw her for real. He saw ravens black hair, like he had never seen before. A part of his mind - the godly part - whipped into action, and he flashed back around to face the minotaur, who was rearing, and about the charge.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca screamed. She couldn't help it. Not only was this creature huge, snarling and had large horns, but it was the ugliest thing she had ever seen. And believe me, she had seen plenty of ugly things. She tucked and rolled away from the sidewalk. The boy didn't follow. But that wasn't what surprised her. He whipped out a bronze blade, and began to brawl with the creature. "ARE YOU INSANE?" She yelled. "THAT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE ANY BULL I'VE EVER SEEN!" He lunged toward her, covering her. She heard him mutter something in a language she couldn't understand. She could feel him now, his back pressed against her, his skin cold. This itself took her breath away, but on top of that, the creature was about to charge again. Kalyca thought she would faint.

Damien's mouth swung open when he heard the girls words. It was true - the minotaur looked about as close to a bull as a chicken to a piranha, but it wasn't true for her. She was just a mortal! Obviously a mortal!
Damien didn't have time to think about how sharp his thoughts were, when he saw the creature preparing to charge again. Acting before thinking, he grabbed the females wrist and dodged out of the way, dragging her along with him. Then he turned her around towards him, still grasping her by the wrist in a death grip.
"What do you see?" He said, barely out of breath. He knew he was leaving his back exposed, but he had to figure out what she was seeing. Some part of his mind whispered exactly what his waking mind was thinking: She can see the minotaur.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca was surprised by the urgency in his voice. He looked at her with an intense look in his eyes, and she found it exceedingly hard to pull her gaze away. "What do you see?" She breathed. When she found the strength inside of herself to look away, the first thing she saw was the bull creature. It was charging straight in their direction. Kalyca panicked. She looked down and saw the boy's sword. She lunged for it and screamed, "GET OUT OF THE WAY!" She stood shakily, and waited for the bull to come closer. "C'mon, porkchop..." She whispered. She waited until the bull was close enough she could feel it's breath on her face, then she jumped as high as she could, plunging the sword into the creature's back. It howled in pain. She looked back at the boy, who was staring at her as if she was insane. Of course, this was nothing new to Kalyca.

Damien's mouth dropped open. He wanted to say: "Good job!" But the words didn't come out in that fashion.
"What the hell?" He said, before realizing what he had said. "Okay, sorry, what I meant to say was -" The minotaur started standing up again. Don't these things ever die?!
"- great job and RUN!!" He said, grabbing his blade from her and her wrist (again). He sprinted away. He let go of her when he was sure she was running.
"So you can see the minotaur?" He said, looking at her from the side of his eyes.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer..."So that's what those things are...Yeah, I can see it." She was having trouble keeping up with him, which made her feel so...weak. "In fact, I've always been able to see them..." She said distantly. "Which is why everyone around here thinks I'm crazy." Finally they reached an alleyway, where they both sank down against the wall, gasping for breath. "Um...I'm Kalyca, by the way." She put a hand out. "Thanks for saving my ass..."

"No problem.." He said, utterly confused. Weren't mortals supposed to not be able to see these things? Now that the adrenaline rush subsided, he was more of his mysterious self, and less controlled by his godly instincts.
"So - you are a mortal, right?" He said, looking at her. Her face was flushed red from all the running, and her black hair was somehow pretty. He resisted the urge to see how soft it was.
'What are you thinking!' Damien thought to himself, shaking his already messy hair into his face.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca scoffed. "What else is there?" She replied sarcastically. Then she stopped and turned her head to look at him. "Wait...so...why did you have a sword...and...how can you see them too?!" She jumped up. "You-you're like me! You can see them!" She sank back down, laughing hysterically. But it was more out of relief than out of hilarity. "I'm not crazy..." Then she realized how stupid she must look and quickly came to her senses. "S-sorry...It's just..." She looked away, her red face getting redder.

"Um..." he said, doubting the mortal could hear him. He kneeled down to where the mortal was, and softly said; "Well.. no. I'm not like you. And yes, there are more things out there then mortals. There are.. well..." His voice had dropped without him realizing it. He didn't even notice that his hand was on her shoulder.
"Well there are gods, and I'm half-god. Greek gods, to be exact." He said slowly, watching her reaction carefully. He knew that to much information could blow a person of there rocker. Some people couldn't handle it. But apparently, she had withstood more then the average mortal, so she could possibly take it. She looked strong, so he doubted she would faint, like the normal mortal would.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca's face dropped. "You mean...the gods are real?" She said. She looked him up and down. He seemed normal enough. But then again, so did she. She looked him in the eyes. Those entrancing eyes... "Why should I believe you?" She raised an eyebrow at him. She noticed that his hand was on her shoulder. She blushed and turned away. It was only then when she noticed how close she had been to him... Get hold of yourself, Kalyca... She thought. He's just a boy...you've met plenty of them. But something about this one was so...different from the rest. She sighed. What did she have to lose? She looked at him again. "Do you have any proof?"

Damien sighed with relief. He really hadn't felt like picking up an unconscious body. Proof? Damien had proof. But what kind of proof did she want?
...oh.
"Είναι αυτό απόδειξη αρκετό για σας, κυρία μου?" [Is this proof enough for you my lady?] He paused, trying not to blush at the 'my lady' part he had added. He shook his head.
"To bad I'm not a son of Poseidon... I could just make it rain." He whispered. What could a son of Athena do? Be smart? Then he picked up his blade.
"I don't really have enough proof, but this blade is bronze - meant for killing monsters. The bull thing you saw earlier was a minotaur. Is this enough proof for you?" He asked.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca looked at him for a moment, considering him. "So, you're a demigod...right? And demigods get quests from the gods...so..." She stood up, still looking at him. "I want to come on a quest with you." She said simply, crossing her arms like a 4 year old. Surely that would be proof enough. "And, no, I don't need permission from my parents. In fact.." She sighed. "They would probably be grateful to have me away for awhile..."

"You can't!" He said, he words bursting past his lips. He bit his lip, then continued on. "I mean... I guess I would let you - but you're a mortal. Mortals can't come into the demigod places... like, physically can't." He said, still sitting down. Damien looked down at his shoes, fidgeting.
