Trying to love you... Dieing to love you. Damien thrust his foot at the creature, knocking it off balance. It turned to look at him, and before it could turn him to stone, he flicked his head away. His Athena instincts kicked into overdrive, and he dropped to the ground, and rolled over to a corner of the alley they were in, looking for something with reflective properties. He heard the Gorgon rushing his direction and rolled over, listening into it slamming into the wall. Finally, he found what he was looking for - a broken shard of mirror. Damien thrust out his hand, ignoring the searing pain as the jagged edge of the mirror sliced open his hand.
Damien stood up, covered in dust from rolling around in an alley, and crouched into a defensive crouch with his eyes locked on the broken shard of mirror, showing him that the Gorgon was right in front of him.

"I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca was on edge. She wanted to help Damien, help him kill this strange beast. But she knew she would only get in the way. Just then she saw a sparkling across the street. She crawled across the street and grabbed it up. It was a blue bead, about the size of a marble. Then she spotted more all around the street. She looked over a Damien and then quickly snatched them up, crawling back. Then she grabbed his sword and was about to stab the monster in the back when it fell back, it's eyes closing. She faced Damien and was stuck in an awkward position, the sword raised, the monster in her lap.

Trying to love you... Dieing to love you. He didn't know what to think when he saw is sword in her hands, raised to kill the monster. His heart swelled to twice the normal size. She was going to kill it, and save his ass. A small smile crept onto his features. He was about to thank her for almost killing it, when he noticed the soft glowing in her cupped hands.
"The beads! You found them!" He said, shrugging off his jacket. He noticed her eyes, that were like the night sky question him. He took his jacket and wound it around the Gorgans face, first getting it of her.
Then he became aware of her closeness. They're shoulders were touching, sending electric tingles up and down the surface of his skin. He looked at her, and his heart pulsed harder. Her night blue eyes, framed by the ravens black hair entranced him, and he couldn't tear himself away from those eyes, and her creamy face... Did she have a boyfriend? He found himself wondering. Damien blinked and hefted the corpse under some boxes at the edge of the alley, his swift feet carrying him back to her. The realization that he couldn't stand to be away from her for more then a second caught him completely of guard. He coudn't be away from Kalyca.
He should congratulate her for finding the beads. He opened his mouth to congratulate her, but different words slipped out. "Do you have a last name, Kalyca?"

I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca smiled and handed the beads to him, answer him question as she helped to push the monster off of her. "Cypriot. You?" When she looked up found her shoulders touching his, their faces an inch apart. Her heart raced, thumping so hard in her chest she thought it might break through her skin. Usually she would blush and look away, but this time she held his gaze, staring into his stormy gray eyes. He really was perfect. Rounded features and tousled hair coming just enough over his eyes to look good. His eyes were bright and fixed on her, as hers were on him. She looked down and saw the large gash on his arm an the slice on his palm and she was instantly guilty. She had been staring at his face while what she needed to be doing was making sure he didn't bleed to death... "You're bleeding!" She gasped. She looked around for something to patch it with. She zipped open her backpack and found her gym shirt. She wound it around the gash on his arm, creating a tourniquet. She tied it at the top and told Damien to apply pressure to it. Then Kalyca took part of her sweatshirt sleeve and pressed it onto the cut on his hand. They stayed like this for a moment, waiting for Damien's cuts to stop bleeding. She looked up at him again, her heart speaking for her. "Damien, do you have a girlfriend?"

Trying to love you... Dieing to love you. "Wha-no. D-do you?" He said, realizing that his throat chocked up when he said the words. He found himself wishing violently that she she didn't have a boyfriend. Damien bit his lip to keep from saying, "You better not!" and looked down at the pressure Kalyca was applying with her fingertips. The simple contact was sending shivers down his spine.

I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca blushed and smiled. "No. In fact I've never had one..." She said. "I'm sure that sounds pretty stupid to you, though." She thought about all the tools at her school and how they teased her...no, she could never be with one of them. Then she realized how disappointed her family would be if she never found the right guy and never got married when she was older... "Crap." She breathed. She was supposed to be at the store, buying things for her Mom this whole time. "I-I think I have to go..." She said quietly. She was afraid she would start crying again if she talked too loud. She looked up at him again, her eyes clouded by sadness. "Will...will I ever see you again?" She was asking herself more than she was asking him. She felt her heart cracking at the thought of never being able to see Damien again. Kalyca had always sworn she didn't believe in love. Yet somehow, she felt deep inside of her that she had found it anyway, and letting it slip away from her once again. She would be left empty inside, with nothing to live for, nothing to be fueled by anymore. She clenched her fists. She would never let that happen.

Trying to love you... Dieing to love you. Damiens hand moved to her cheek of its own accord. "Yes.. you will see me again." He whispered. Then he realized he was holding her cheek, and he dropped his hand, trying hard to not look at her reflective night eyes. Damien knew he should be getting back to Poseidon with the beads, considering time ran differently in Mount Olympus. It was longer in the mortal world, stretched out and endless. The gods barely noticed the time pass, since they were immortal, but the demigods noticed how slow the small sun dredged across the sun. Damien sighed, and turned around, flitting past the alleyways like a smudge against the world.

I hate few things, but love even fewer...Kalyca sank to the ground as she watched him go. Her heart tore into pieces as she thought of how he probably just said that to make her feel better. A drop of water fell on her head, and she realized that it had started raining. She put her hood up and closed her eyes, her hand coming together in prayer. "O Great Gods, if you truly are up there and watching over us all, I apologize for not believing in you until now. But please, I would give my own blood to just see him one last time." She whispered, her tears mixing with the rain that found it's way onto her cheeks. She shakily stood up and started walking in the direction of the small market down the street from her house. Then she stopped, realizing something. What if he had never cared about her at all? What if he was just using her to get the beads, and the nice guy thing was all an act? Yet somehow, this thought melted away all other feeling in her body besides raw sorrow, bringing none of the usual anger she had to mind. And the more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Why would anybody but Romeo, Juliet and Kalyca fall in love at first sight? But it made sense. He didn't even know her. It seemed likely that a child of the goddess of wisdom would know all about manipulating someone. Then again, maybe he wasn't a child of Athena and he made up all the stuff about the gods too, just to get her to help him find something he lost. Kalyca felt so gullible, so stupid, so used. So lied to. Kalyca felt as if she had a giant hole in her chest, all life escaping from her wound, her feelings of sorrow and betrayal gnawing at the raw edges of it. So she hugged her arms tight around her chest and tried to stop crying so she wouldn't look like a little emo kid in the grocery store. But then again, why would anybody care to look at her.
