I would give my own blood... K alyca paced back and forth, her brow wrinkled underneath her fuzzy winter hat. She still had her school uniform on, a blazer and skirt, because she had never bothered to go home and change that day. She was too worried. She had sensed something at the park. A monster. Suprise suprise, right? But that was not the only thing that worried her. Last night, a beautiful lady with hair like seafoam came to her in a dream. She told Kalyca that she was Posidon, Goddess of the sea, and told her to go here, city park, and "wait for your future to present itself". Whatever that was supposed to mean. Kalyca sighed and plopped down on a bench. It seemed like an eternity since the last time she had seen Damien. She had written his name over and over again in her notebook so she would never forget it. But she knew she wouldn't anyway. Kalyca smiled to herself and crossed her arms over her dark blue blazer. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The human realm, was still shabby after the period of time within the realm of the gods, even though he barely noticed the passing of anything around him. Only when he came back here, did he notice the gloom hanging over every sad, limp tree. Damien turned a corner, shoving his hands into his sweater, and there she was. Damiens eyes bugged out. Had Kalyca always looked like a god in her dark blue blazer, and skirt? Damien called her name softly, then yelled it, running forward and tripping over something on the ground. He carefully maneuvered around it, and then he hugged Kalyca with all the might of the gods. She was alive, whole, and perfect. And his. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I would give my own blood... K alyca was startled by the sudden attack of affection. But when she broke away and saw his face, time stopped. All the sweet memories flooded back to her as he said her name, and she knew she would never forget his. "Damien." She whispered, her feet lifting slightly off the ground as he held her. They broke away, and the lifeless city streets suddenly shone with Kalyca's happiness. She saw every cardboard box, every soda can, every discarded cigarette butt as if it was a shining jewel. Kalyca had opened her eyes to the dreary city, and now she truly saw. Kalyca turned back to Damien, his face like the centerpiece of all the beauty around her. She giggled giddily and spun around and around, feeling like a small girl again when everything seemed so perfect. She stopped, embarrassed, and quickly gathered herself. Her face was a deep shade of red and she let her dark hair fall over her face to hide it. "Well...this is a bit awkward, isn't it, darling?" Kalyca jumped when she heard the voice, silky and mischievous. But when she looked up, she was dazzled. Before her was a sparkling woman, with a rose pink chiton tied at her shoulder with a golden broach. Her skin was perfectly peach and her hair and eyes gleamed as if they were golden. Kalyca's mouth dropped open "Who...why...are you-" Kalyca stuttered. The woman laughed, a sound sparkly and bright, like the clinking of wind chimes. "I am Aphrodite, goddess of all love. I suppose you know what brings me here." Aphrodite pointed at Damien. "That handsome young man you've taken a liking to." Kalyca blushed deeply. Aphrodite laughed again, the sound like music to Kalyca's ears. "Don't worry, my love. He can't see us or hear us. To him, you appear to be fainted." Then Aphrodite's gaze grew serious. "But I bring bad news. He has indeed fallen in love with you, my dear. But there is something he's not telling you." Aphrodite beckoned Kalyca to sit down. "He was to be married," She whispered. "To a demigod friend of his." Kalyca stared out into space, her heart and mind shattered with the words. "M-m-m-" Kalyca started. "Married." Aphrodite whispered again. Kalyca could feel her chest being ripped open again, her thoughts tearing her apart. She could see them, all the memories of Damien in her mind. Each word he had spoken to her echoed in her mind. You will see me again
I can stay with you forever
I love you, Kalyca These words blurred inside of her head, and she screamed, waking with a start on the park bench. ...to see his face one more time.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Damien's worried face lingered over Kalycas startled one. She had suddenly gone limp, and now... Kalyca? Are you alright? He said, the hurried words blending into one another. He grasped her hand, and brushed the back of his hand against her head. You're not sick... Do you feel faint? Do you need to go home? Are you okay? He said, starting to panic. He didn't like the unknown, and her face, pale from the unknown, was scaring him witless.

I would give my own blood... K alyca jumped up from the bench, away from his touch. "No! No...don't...don't touch me!" She screamed. Her face was pale, and her eyes stared blankly at him. Her heart...it felt as if it had been wrenched from her chest. She had no heart. Only a lump of stone, beating endlessly against her skin. Her finger pointed shakily in Damien's direction. The perfection she thought she had all to herself, the love she had felt...it was all fake. He was a liar. He was using her. "You lied to me!" She screamed. She sunk to her knees, her hands over her head, her hair falling over her face. Nobody was out today, because of the cold. Just the two of them. No one to help her. No one to save her from the lies that were suffocating her. "You lied to me..." She said again, her head in her hands. "Why didn't you tell me...that you...why..." ...to see his face one more time.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Damiens mouth dropped at the wild accusations that came out of nowhere. "What did I do? I would never lie!" He stood up, his eyes filling with pain and shock. He flung his hands out, as if to embrace the world, but instead of embracing the world, the words, "Where did these accusations come from, anyways? What use would I have to lie to you? I would never hurt you!" xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
[sorry for the craptastic post, but there's not much I can say, lol]

The Gods would never lie... K alyca's head flung up, her dark eyes burning with rage. She jumped up from the ground and stood and inch away from Damien. Her nostrils flared, but tears still poured from her eyes. "You were lying when you said you could stay with me forever. You were lying when you said you missed me. You were lying -" Kalyca gulped down a river of tears. "When you said you loved me." She gasped, fighting the urge to wipe that innocent look off his face. "I was wrong!" She snapped. "I thought you were different. I though you were special! I though you were the only being on this Earth that cared about me!" Kalyca lashed her arms, yelling. Then she stopped, her eyes wide. She looked around, to be sure no one had seen, and wiped her eyes. She pulled her blazer around her. "I-I was wrong. I was wrong because...you can't give your heart away when you've already promised it to someone else." She whispered, stepping away from him. She sat back down on the bench, her head in her hands. Why was she still here? That was it - Damien had lied to her. But she couldn't let go of him. She still loved him, despite everything he had done... Goddesses didn't lie. Demigods did. Simple, right? But nothing was simple in Kalyca's world. ...Would they?

"Here's to Trying" Words evaded him, and every time he wanted to say something. a half form word escaped his lips, unbidden. "Bu - Y - Wh - Ho - Wa - Huh?!" He said finally. Once the one word escaped his lips, millions of others exploded from him.
"HowhaveIeverliedtoyou,I'veneverfeltthiswayaboutanyonebeforeandwhywouldIlietoyouandwhowouldIhavepromisedmyselftowhenIcan'tstandanythinglongtermuntilrightnowwithyouand I love you and I've never considered myself the kind of person who would ever say that to anyone but my mother and father and I'm not even sure I made sense, but nothing makes sense except for you" He broke off, the seemingly random stream of words just dissipating, leaving him gaping like a fish without air. He felt like he had just dropped a bomb, but her shocked and pain filled face was burned into his memory like when you stare at a bright light for to long, and the image gets burned into your retinas. The Gods would never lie... K alyca looked up at him, her eyes full of all the pain that she held inside of her. "Then I guess we're even." Was all she said as she walked away from the park. Where was she going? Where were her feet taking her? Kalyca didn't think it mattered. This day had made her question everything about her life. Was this place that she had called home for so long real? Were the very people that she was raised by just play-things for the gods? Was she herself even a single consciousness? But did it all really matter anymore? Damien was gone. Hell, he had never really been there in the first place. Yet terrible guilt and loss still clung to the pit of her stomach, tying her heart into knots and making her head ache. But she ignored the pain, just like she always had. ...Would they?

Love 1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. 2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend. 3. sexual passion or desire. 4. a person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart. Aphrodite giggled with glee. "Stupid little mortals...well, that one's not all mortal..." She shook her head and turned her attention back to the conversation. When she saw the mortal walking away, her eyes turned red with anger. "What!? She's walking away?" Aphrodite sighed. "Just when it was getting good, too..." She shrugged and glanced at the demigod. "Well, I suppose it's time I set things right..." She stood up and drifted next to the boy. Aphrodite put on a stunning smile and tapped him on the shoulder. "You know," She said sadly. "She's very, very hurt." The goddess suppressed a delighted smile as the words slipped from her lips. She sighed. "I suppose I should've told my little Eros not to shoot your little demigod girlfriend. Things would've been much easier for you, hun..." Aphrodite smiled again and drifted over to a bench. "But they would've been much more boring for me."

"Here's to Trying" Damien hated himself.
Damien hated the fact that Aphrodites beauty captivated him like a common mortal.
He hated that he blamed Aphrodite for the situation with Kalyca.
But most of all, he hated that instead of running after Kalyca to prove his love to her, he stayed behind and blamed Aphrodite for his problems.
"I - I'm sorry... Of course you will," He said softly as She walked away. He adverted his face from Her billowing dress, feeling himself drown in shame. Damien stared at Kalycas retreating figure until he had to blink away tears.
Suddenly, light filled his eyes. Damien blinked and turned away from Kalyca to look at the sunset. The sun was setting, perched upon the horizon like a bird about to fly. But instead of flying, the sun majestically sunk into the ground, until darkness enveloped Damien, extinguishing the last bit of beauty he would see for a long time."Rhymes with Dying"

Aphrodite giggled again. "You're adorable, darling. But don't you see why I did this? I am not a hateful goddess, I love all demigods." She said wistfully, standing up and placing a hand on her chest. Then she smiled and leaned forward, her smiling face an inch away from the boy's. "I did this to show you that neither of them deserved you. Have faith in me, love. Aphrodite will make it all better." She touched him on the nose. "You'll have the girl of your dreams in no time. I'll just whip up a quick love potion and ask Apollo to..." Aphrodite's voice trailed off, counting off the tasks she had to complete on her fingers. She glanced to the side and saw the mortal girl still walking away, completely unaware of Aphrodite's scheme. The goddess giggled again and spun around, her dress floating around her. "I love my job." She sighed contentedly.

Aphrodite smiled. She had gotten to him. Good. Everything was going perfectly. "Darling, if you want to be happy you should listen to me..." She said sweetly. "But you have to promise not to tell anyone else. This is very, very personal munchkin." She flipped her lustrous, shining brown hair over her shoulder and patted his head. Aphrodite then held up a hand, and suddenly a golden ring appeared on her finger. She carefully slipped the ring off and handed it to Damien. "This will let me communicate with you, hon. To...keep you posted." She smiled, devious thoughts stirring and shifting inside her brain. Of course the ring wasn't a communication device. It was simply the goddess's way of making sure the little brat didn't snitch. She smiled at the boy again and stood up. "I'm sure we'll be seeing each other again very soon, darling." She said as a golden mist swirled around her, Aphrodite's form dissipating into the dark.

"Here's to Trying" Well, Aphrodite sure knew how to make a flashy disappearance. In the dark, it looked like the shadows reached out and wrapped Her up, then the shadows receded and She wasn't there anymore.
Damien laid his hand and looked at the ring, witch seemed to glow gently in his hand, even though its silver surface had no shine to it. Damien pinched it with his index finger and thumb, holding it up to the sunset, so that stray beams of light from the sunset reflected its surface. There was nothing significant about it - it was just a plain silver ring, yet it seemed to draw the light out of the air and wear it like a shimmering coat. It did not yield to the coldness of the air or the warmth of his fingers and remained at a consistent warm temperature.
To keep you posted She had said.
And just what made Her think he wanted to stay in touch? The cold metal suddenly burned his hand, and he reflexively dropped it. He could hear the plink! it made when hitting the ground, even though it was just on grass. Damien stared at the ring, then raised his boot and stepped on the thing, smearing it into the grass. Damien lifted his boot, then walked off into the sunset without glancing at the crushed ring. The only thing going through his mind was,
Poseidon."Rhymes with Dying"
